In a tough side at West Ham with many 1966 World Cup stars such as Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst, with Spurs Peters became a firm fan favourite after scoring on his debut. That year the side also came third in the league and at the end of a season that also saw a long FA Cup run, Peters was the only Spurs player to play in all of the clubs 58 competitive games and in that time he netted 19 times.
