Nigel Martyn

Biography

Nigel Martyn is a prominent former English goalkeeper turned guest speaker. After a long career playing between the posts for a number of teams, Nigel now recounts his experiences to audiences of all descriptions, age and background. Should you be looking to inspire young audiences or motivate business men alike, he makes a perfect choice. Nigel’s career ran from 1987 until 2006 and saw him playing for teams including Bristol Rovers, Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Everton.
Born in Cornwall, his move from Rovers to Palace was the first time a keeper had been bought for £1 million in British football. After this came six seasons with Leeds and a total of 23 caps for England. Martyn made his debut for the England national side against the Commonwealth of Independent States in Moscow in 1992, and remains one of few Cornishmen to play for the national team. Unfortunately for Nigel, he spent the bulk of his time in the game as second fiddle to one of the English games best ever goalies, namely David Seaman. Martyn started in goal for a 2-2 draw with Greece at Old Trafford that qualified England for the 2002 FIFA World Cup and after retiring spent time as goalkeeping coach at Bradford City, a role he started in March 2007. To have Nigel Martyn appear to present an award, host a charity dinner or coach young kids on your behalf is always an illuminating and pleasurable experience for all involved.
