Olivier Magne was a fearsome presence in the French national rugby team. This now retired former professional rugby player had a long and successful ten year career with Les Blues and in all picked up an impressive 89 caps for his side. Playing as an open side flanker, Olivier was celebrated for his pace, skills with the ball and flair for the game. His debut came aged just 23 against Wales at the Five Nations tournament of 1997. Immediately making an impact, he helped his side to victory that year.
Olivier was a natural choice for the World Cup squads of 1999 and again in 2003 and during these tournaments turned out some of his best ever performances in the blue shirt. One of these was most famously a devastating turn against the All Blacks in a winning performance in 1999. Olivier played every single game in the tournaments and helped the French side make it to the final and semifinal respectively. Domestically Olivier played for US Dax and Brive, also played for Montferrad in 1999 and in the late years of his storied career after six years with Montferrad went on to play for London Irish in the twilight of his career. Always one of the most feared flankers in world rugby, Oliver was a central member of the national side throughout all his playing days. In all he was a part of sides that won no fewer than four Grand Slams in the five nations, and scored 14 tries in the games he played.
