Paul Merson is a legendary former English professional footballer turned hugely prominent Sky Sports pundit and commentator. Now a recognisable face on TV, Paul is a fantastic character who delivers greatly insightful speeches, acts as a brand ambassador and relishes a range of public appearances. Paul was a forward and then later a playmaking midfielder during his career and he spent much of it in the Premier League, playing for Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, as well as appearing in the Football League for Brentford and Portsmouth. Before finally ending his career, Merton also played for Walsall – where he was a player manager – and spent some time with Tamworth, as well as briefly coming out of retirement in 2013 to play a one off game for Welshpool Town.
Paul Merson also represented England and turned out 21 times for the team, scoring three goals in that period. It was with Arsenal that Merson was most successful, though, establishing himself in George Graham’s successful Arsenal side of the late 1980s. Honours picked up with the team include a league championship in 1991, the FA Cup and League Cup in 1993 (in the latter of which he scored an equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday in the final) as well as the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1994. As well as being on Sky Sports every weekend, Merson also hosts the Sky Sports TV programme ‘Fantasy Football Club’ and as such, should you be looking to add some star quality to any football or charity event you are planning, Paul Merson makes a fine choice.
