Perry Groves

Biography

Perry Groves was a professional footballer who had a glittering career with Arsenal. As a youth he was hell bent on becoming a professional bowling ball maker, and, while working as a milkman at the time, was eventually scouted when playing football for his school side. It was Arsenal assistant Matt Goss who saw his potential and soon informed the manager who also came to check out the young player. So impressed were they that they signed him up, and thus began a great relationship. In all he played 155 games and scored 21 goals and the left winger also played for Southampton, Canvey Island and Dagenham & Redbridge.
After retiring from the game, Perry has been a part of BBC Sport Relief campaigns and is now regarded as a cult favourite among Arsenal fans, who often sing about him on the terraces. He has published an autobiography, We All Live in a Perry Groves World, and it has in fact outsold biographies by the likes of Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, such is his enduring appeal and legacy. Perry has also continued to play for the likes of Chester and in 2014 started a company, Play With A Legend, which offers stag and corporate parties the chance to play with former footballing greats like Paul Merson and Dion Dublin. Perry also works a pundit for TalkSPORT and has been on Absolute Radio. A fast paced player with great feet and finishing ability, Perry Groves remains a popular sporting figure who is a great guest speaker and brand ambassador.
