Perry McCarthy

Biography

Former British racer driver Perry McCarthy had a fine career behind the wheel and then became one of the most famous TV race car drivers of them all – The Stig! Perry now talks about his time in the sport at a range of public events, functions and conferences and is confortable speaking to young audiences as well as business conferences. McCarthy was born in London in 1961 and started out in the youth ranks of race car driving. With great skill and determination he worked his way through the different classes throughout Europe, competing in Formula Ford, Formula 3 and F3000, gaining a reputation for being both talented and unpredictable.
In 1991, McCarthy got a big call up to go and test for Formula 1 team Footwork. He impressed and got his big break on the eve of the 1992 Formula One season. He then went on to test for both Williams and Benetton teams during the 1990s. In 2002 McCarthy reverted to racing sports car as op-posed to single seaters and raced at Le Mans and numerous other events. During this time he was also signed up by world renowned BBC motoring show Top Gear to be The Stig, a masked and overalled driver who tested cars. Known for his great sense of humour, McCarthy now spends his time working as an after dinner speaker for large and small corporations all over the world.
