Tracee Ellis Ross

Biography

Tracee Ellis Ross is a multi-talented American actress, model, comedian, director, and television host who has impressed audiences in a number of high-profile roles. These include her portrayals of Joan Clayton in the comedy series Girlfriends and Dr. Rainbow Johnson in the much-loved 2014 comedy Black-ish. Her incredible on-screen work has won her plenty of critical acclaim including a Golden Globe for Best Actress, two Critics’ Choice Awards and three Primetime Emmys.

 

Daughter of world-renowned Motown singer Diana Ross, Ellis Ross began her acting career with a number of independent films and variety series. Early on in her career, Ross got a break in comedy with a regular role in the MTV series The Lyricist Lounge Show, a hip-hop variety series mixing up themes of music, comedy and drama. From 2000 to 2008 she played leading character Joan Clayton in the hit comedy series Girlfriends, winning the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for the performance. Film work in the likes of Daddy’s Little Girl, Hanging Up and I-See-You.com took her to the big screen before she returned to television screens for another award-winning performance in Read Between the Lines.

 

In addition to working as a model in her youth, Tracee has also worked as a fashion editor for Mirabella and New York Magazine. A giant of the entertainment world, she continues to play some of the most loved characters on screen today.
