Santana

Biography

Santana, also known as Santana Blues Band was originally formed in 1966 in San Francisco. The original members of the group were Carlos Santana, Tom Frazier, Mike Carabello, Rod Harper, Gus Rodriguez and Gregg Rolie. The group were signed to CBS Records in the late Sixties and were asked to play at the legendary Woodstock Music and Art Festival even before they had released their first album. Over the years, they have released 27 albums and through these releases have successfully managed to create a highly popular blend of salsa, rock, blues and jazz fusion.

Over the years, the members of Santana changed frequently for a number of reasons and during the early Seventies, Carlos Santana had a brief separation from the group to launch his solo career. Carlos Santana has been releasing music since the 1960s and is one of the world’s most well-renowned guitar players. Rolling Stones named Santana number 15 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003. From his psychedelic performance at the original Woodstock festival to his collaborations with the likes of Wyclef Jean and Rob Thomas, Santana has always pushed his own musical boundaries, gaining new fans along the way.
