British choreographer Arlene Phillips is a multi-talented dance star who has scouted talent, directed for the stage, performed and danced all her life. Working in a wide range of fields across the entertainment industry, she is perhaps most famous for choreographing a number of West End and Broadway musicals, films, and television shows. Phillips received mainstream exposure when she was invited to appear as a judge on the hugely popular TV shows Strictly Come Dancing and So You Think You Can Dance.
Phillips now has an international reputation as a choreographer, heavily influenced by the style of American Modern Jazz dance. In 1982 Phillips choreographed the hit musical film Annie, as well as ‘The Wild Boys’, a huge hit for Duran Duran which was named Best British Video at the 1985 BRIT Awards. In addition to choreographing for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, Phillips has appeared on Let’s Dance for Comic Relief in the Dance Judge Panel and the BBC’s Eurovision: Your Country Needs You.
Back in the seventies, Phillips became a household name after acting as director and choreographer for Hot Gossip, a British dance troupe that became a regular feature on The Kenny Everett Show. She has also choreographed hit West End shows such as Grease, Saturday Night Fever, The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz throughout her long and successful career. All of this makes Arlene Phillips one of the most standout stars of her industry and a vital presence within the world of dance, theatre and television.
