Claire Sweeney

Biography

British actress, singer and TV personality Claire Sweeney is best known for portraying Lindsey Corkhill in Channel 4 soap opera Brookside and appearing in the reality TV series Celebrity Big Brother.

Raised in Liverpool, Sweeney trained at the Elliot-Clarke Drama school and subsequently received a placement in prestigious London stage school Italia Conti at the age of eighteen. After a brief appearance on Brookside, Sweeney toured the world as a cruise ship singer before returning to the soap in 1995. Appearing on Celebrity Big Brother in aid of Comic Relief, Sweeney secured her place as one of Britian’s most widely recognised television personalities. The actress went on to play the part of Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago, releasing her debut solo album Claire on Telstar Records in 2002 – peaking at No 15 on the UK Albums Chart, the record proved that Sweeney is not only a talented actress, but a gifted musician and performer.

Sweeney is widely recognised for her appearances in pantomime productions, appearing in popular productions such as Snow White and Aladdin. Aside from her work in Brookside, she has also taken on the role of Amanda in the 2010 comedy drama series Candy Cabs and appeared in the crime drama Merseybeat. Most recently, she can be seen seen acting in long-running medical drama Holby City, and ITV comedy series Benidorm.
