American film, television and voice actor Lee Majors has portrayed an array of endearing characters throughout his 50+ year career, playing central roles in classic TV shows The Six Million Dollar Man, The Big Valley, and The Fall Guy. Born in Wyandotte, Michigan and raised by his uncle and aunt, the actor initially entered into the world of sports before an injury forced him to choose another path, launching an acting career that’s propelled him into international stardom.
Moving to L.A. after college, Majors attended acting school, adopting the stage name Lee Majors as a tribute to childhood hero Johnny Majors, a player and future coach for the University of Tennessee. The actor found his big break when he was chosen for the role of Heath Barkley in the ABC Western The Big Valley. The show was a major hit, projecting Majors into the public consciousness and kicking off an illustrious career that spans five decades – but it wasn’t until he landed the role of Colonel Steve Austin in The Six Million Dollar Man, a 1973 TV movie and subsequent series, that Majors became a pop icon.
In the 80’s, Majors secured another career-defining role: Colt Seavers in much-loved TV series The Fall Guy. The show ran for five seasons until 1986, with Major as producer, director and leading man. In the years that followed, this talented actor has seen roles in countless films and TV shows, including ‘The Last Chase’, Keaton’s Cop’, ‘The Brothers Solomon’ and ‘Community’. In 2017 he was awarded the Life Career Award by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films at the 43rd Annual Saturn Awards.
