Lizzie Deignan

Biography

Lizzie Deignan (formerly Armitstead) is a well known and accomplished Gold medal winning Olympic athlete who has risen to the very top of her sport on an international level. The professional world champion track and road racing specialist hails from Otley in West Yorkshire and has won National and Commonwealth championships on the bike. In fact, she has won five medals at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships, including a gold in the team pursuit alongside Joanna Rowsell and Wendy Houvenaghel. Of course, Lizzie was one of the standout stars at the London 2012 Games. Picking up medals wherever she goes, she road to a great silver medal in the road race of those Games and was the first Brit to win a medal that year. A lifelong vegetarian, Lizzie was competing at every level and has ridden for professional teams such as Cervelo TestTeam, Team Halfords Bikehut, Lotto-Belisol Ladies and AA Drink-leontien.nl. Lizzie was first inspired to take cycling seriously when the Olympic Talent Team visited her school in 2004. It’s a testament to the transformative power that one positive interaction can have on a young person’s life and her success continued into the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio where she picked up a prized Gold Medal. Having achieved so much, Lizzie is well placed to inspire and motivate young audiences, sports women and anyone else. She is a professional and dedicated person who continues to impress at every event.
