Nick Buckland

Biography

British ice dancer Nick Buckland is a three-time Winter Olympian who has achieved legendary status within his chosen sport. The Nottingham-born skater is paired with Penny Coomes (who also happens to be his fiancée) and in 2014 won the European bronze medal, along with six other international titles. The pair have succeeded in the British National Championships five times and are undoubtedly some of the sport’s most accomplished stars.

Buckland began skating aged just two years old, after his grandparents brought him to the local ice rink: as ice skaters themselves, they instilled a love of the sport within the family, leading both Buckland and his younger brother to make an entry into competitive skating. In 2018, Buckland and his dance partner worked as stunt doubles and consultants on a hit Christmas Day TV drama show called Torvill and Dean, based on the true story of iconic skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. The same year saw the pair take time out to recover from injuries, but not before they made their third appearance at the Winter Olympics in South Korea, finishing just outside the top 10 in an admirable 11th position. As such, Nick Buckland remains a prominent skater on the world scene and one who continues to impress at the very highest level of the sport.
