Shelina Permalloo

Biography

A talented chef, author and restauranteur, Shelina Permalloo is best known for having won the popular BBC TV show Masterchef back in 2012. Since then she has become a prominent figure in the food industry and has gone on to great things. These including writing various books such as Sunshine on a Plate, which was published in June 2013 by Ebury Press. The book takes cues from Shelina’s Mauritian heritage and hopes to take you on a foodie trip through the island’s rich and diverse gourmet heritage and most classic dishes, all with a twist.

The second book came out in early 2016 and is call The Sunshine Diet. As the name suggest this is about helping people to lose weight by eating healthily and is inspired by her own story, which saw her lose 22 kilos. “I wanted to show you the dishes that inspire me to feel full, happy and don’t make me feel like I’m on a diet!” she has said about the book. Now also running her own restaurant, which is again Mauritius themed, it is called Lakaz Mama after the Creole word for Mum’s House. Casual, relaxed and fun, the food is inspired by street food and invites you to get messy and enjoy the experience with no fancy fuss, just real quality cooking. As such, Shelina Permalloo is often booked to cook for people in their homes, at events and food shows and sets no limits on what she can do for private dining customers.
